The invention relates to a programmable device (1) for storing a television signal. Said device has a memory device (3) for storing the television signal, at least one interface for receiving a television signal, an interface with a reproducing device (11) for the television signal and at least one interface for inputting control information for the device (1). The aim of the invention is to increase possibilities for television and for recording television signals and to increase user-friendliness. To this end, the memory device (3) is a memory with random access, and the at least one interface for inputting control information is the interface for receiving the television signal and/or the device for reading out a portable programmable storage medium and/or a device for receiving a radio signal. The control information is preferably received in the device (1) together with the television signal, especially in the picture blanking interval and/or the videotext signal. The programmable, portable storage medium is preferably a smart card or similar. The invention also relates to a corresponding method.
