PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce unnecessary bar width decision reference value calculation processing, etc., and to enable the fast decoding of a bar code to be performed by storing and utilizing a bar width decision reference value in the case of success in decoding. SOLUTION: When a CPU 2 is successful in decode processing by continuously using the same bar width decision reference value equally to or more than a prescribed number of times, the CPU 2 stores the bar width decision reference value in a reference value storage work memory (4b), executes decode processing by using the bar width decision reference value stored in the memory (4b) in the case of reading and decoding the next bar code. In the case of failing in decode processing by using the bar width decision reference value, the CPU 2 newly calculates a bar width decision reference value, executes decode processing on the basis of the calculated bar width decision reference value and carries out the release and update of the bar with decision reference value. |
