PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to grasp the conduction of photographing through the operation of a mechanical drive system even in the case of digital image pickup (electronic image pickup) by an electronic image pickup device. SOLUTION: In the case that an area sensor 17 picks up an observing image from an image pickup lens 51, a CPU 29 controls a mirror drive circuit 23 to activate a moving mirror 4. Thus, the user can grasp the conduction of image pickup through an operating sense of the moving mirror 4 even in the case of electronic image pickup.
