<p>A restoration apparatus and method for removing surface defects that exit in a top surface layer of an optical storage medium, comprising a support carriage (12) having an interior portion containing fluids (156, 158); a retention disk (32) supported on a bearing surface (30) that freely rotates and said the retention disk is positioned within a fluid tight recess (22) that is in communication with the said fluids and the optical storage medium; and arm assembly (52) having a motor (100) and a polishing head (50) with a restoration medium, said arm is hingly attached to the top surface of the support carriage. Rotation of the polishing head against the surface of the optical storage medium causes it to rotate in an opposite direction.</p> |
