When the ignition key bearing an ID chip is inserted this is first checked by the control system to ensure that it is correct prior to permitting the driver to start the vehicle. On receipt of the correct ID signal the control system operates an electromagnetically operated detent which inhibits the starting operation if the key has not been fully inserted
