<p>A flash lamp (2) comprises a gas-filled container (4) that encloses a discharge electrode pair (10) consisting a cathode (6) and an anode (8) opposed to each other to produce an arc, and trigger electrodes (12, 14) for predischarging. The cathode includes a metal base (22) composed of either refractory porous metal impregnated with electron-emitting material or refractory metal impregnated with electron-emitting material and then sintered; and a refractory metal coating (24) that covers predetermined surface portions of the metal base. The metal base (22) has a sharp end (22a) opposed to the anode (8), and the end (22a) includes a tip (22t) exposed or devoid of the coating (24).</p> |
