The fuel injector has a valve body (20) moving in a control chamber (4). The operational connection (16) with the control device, preferably a piezoelectric actuator, causes the valve body to take its sealing surface (22) off the valve seat (43). Thus the stroke can be variably adjusted so that the return flow of fuel is established from control chamber through the stroke of the valve body.
