The invention relates to a system to produce a signal for hydraulic regulation of transmission of a continuously variable transmission in a motor vehicle. A valve that influences the hydraulic connection between a pressure reservoir having a hydraulic pressure and a pressure chamber is provided. Regulation of the transmission is effected by controlling at least the valve by means of the electric signal (Ip). To this end, the electrical signal (Ip) is generated in such a way that it is limited to a minimum and/or maximum value (Imin, Imax). The invention is characterized in that the maximum and/or minimum values (Imin, Imax) are determined depending on hydraulic pressure (Ps). The limit according to the invention ensures that, despite transmission regulation, sufficient pressure reserve is available for regulating band tensioning. Failure in secondary pressure required for band tensioning and the risk of slip in the drive element are thus prevented. The invention makes it possible to rapidly regulate the transmission due the fact that regulation speed reaches the limits of maximum possible regulation with a view to ensuring safe band tensioning regulation.
