METHOD OF REGENERATING INDIVIDUAL OF PLANT BELONGING TO THE GENUS LILIUM

A method of regenerating an individual of a plant belonging to the genus Lilium which comprises the following steps: [i] inducing a callus through dedifferentiation of a tissue of the plant belonging to the genus Lilium; [ii] purifying a protoplast from the culture of the above callus; [iii] nurse-culturing the protoplast thus purified; [iv] inducing a callus from a colony of the protoplast obtained by the nurse culture; and [v] redifferentiating the callus culture. By using this method, an individual can be efficiently regenerated from a protoplast of a plant belonging to the genus Lilium of a foundation stock or a cultivated species. This regeneration method is also applicable to a fused protoplast obtained by the cell fusion method.
