A humidifier (12) comprising: (a) an inlet (32) for receiving a supply of intake air; (b) a first chamber (27) for holding a first volume of said intake air; (c) a second chamber (29) for holding a second volume of said intake air, wherein said second volume of air is passed over the surface of water (31) contained within said second chamber (29); (d) a heather (58) for heating said water and said second volume of air within said second chamber (29); (e) a mixing conduit (84) for receiving and mixing together separate first and second streams of air discharged from said first and second chambers (27, 29) respectively; and (f) an adjustable regulator (96) for regulating the amount of said second stream of air passing into said mixing conduit (84).
