The airbag has a foam cover whose foam structure (7) is strengthened at least over half its base surface through a flexible reinforcement fabric layer (3, 8) which is connected materially and/or through keyed engagement with the foam structure to form a hinge for same. The reinforcement layer extends over the dimensions of the recess (12) to at least one side and is directly or indirectly connected to the interior lining part. The reinforcement layer can be part of a flat surface structure layer forming the outside skin of the interior lining part.
