The drive train has three planetary gear sets (PG1-PG3), which are variably connected between a drive shaft (1), a transmission shaft (5) and a gearbox casing (3) and to each other to produce five forwards gears and one reverse gear, and has friction devices to form couplings (C1-3). The drive train has a first planetary gear set (PG1) with a first sun gear (S1) variably connected to a drive shaft (1), a first ring gear (R1) variably connected to the drive shaft and the first sun gear and a first planet carrier (Ca1) to transmit power to a transmission shaft (5). A second planetary gear has a second sun gear (S2) fixed to the first sun gear and variably connected to the drive shaft, a second planet carrier (Ca2) variably connected to the drive shaft and a connection between the first two sun gears, and a second ring gear (R2) fixed to the drive shaft, to transmit power. A third planetary gear set (PG3) has a third sun gear (S3) fixed to the connection between the first two sun gears, a third planet carrier (Ca3) variably fixed to the gear casing (3) and a third ring gear (R3) fixed to the first planet carrier and the transmission shaft, to transmit power. Friction devices form couplings (C1-3) for the variable connections.
