The tissue has one or more layers and is elastic, flexible, foldable and paper-thin. It forms a safety barrier during resuscitation. The tissue prevents the first aider from contacting the mucous membrane or secreted fluids of the victim. Expired air moves freely from the first aider to the victim, but not the other way.
