The connection method involves using code converters allowing the speech signals provided by the subscribers (21.23) and coded at a relatively low bit rate, to be transmitted via digital network channels of higher bit rate. The called subscriber is signalled when the connection is established from a calling subscriber, providing speech signals coded at the lower bit rate, with evaluation of the signalisation for the transmission of speech signals coded at the lower bit rate, from the called subscriber to the calling subscriber. When the called subscriber cannot provide speech signals coded at the lower bit rate, the signals at the higher bit rate are fed back to the calling subscriber. |
