PURPOSE: A controlling apparatus of a servo motor and a method thereof is provided to prevent a driving part of a servo motor from receiving excessive force by avoiding abrupt braking of the servo motor. CONSTITUTION: A controlling apparatus of a servo motor comprises a main controlling unit(1) for user interface, a servo driver(5), a down counter(2), a pulse generator(3), and switching connection unit. The servo driver(5) controls the servo motor and outputs an abnormal operation signal. The down counter(2) initiates down counting of speed information of the servo motor by the abnormal operation signal. The pulse generator(3) generates a pulse based on the output of the down counter(2). The switching connection unit selectively transfers a control signal of the main controlling unit(1) and the output signal of the pulse generator(3) to the servo driver(5). The switching connection unit is a MUX(multiplexer)(4) for connecting one of many inputs to an output.
