reproducing video images and audio signals from high-density optical disks. SUBSTANCE: variable-frequency bit compression is used to ensure 30% increase in body of data recorded which enables storage of complete films in optical disks. Reproducing recorded variable-frequency bit stream is effected by means of proposed device and method. Device has buffer read out by means of MPEG standard decoder and filled up by new data bursts. Bit frequency information is contained in bit stream. Reproducing device has detecting facility designed to detect bit frequency and to read out buffer at this frequency.
