After scrap and/or plate metal scrap have been fed to a belt conveyor (1.1), the total weight is measured, and then the belt drive is switched on. The mass of scrap on the moving belt conveyor is continuously conveyed to a forming case of the packing press (2) until the required mass to create a pressed article is reached. After the required mass has been reached, the drive of the belt conveyor is switched off and the mass in the forming case is shaped into a pressed article. The feeding machine (1) can then be switched on for the next cycle.
