An actuator for a valve stroke adjusting device in a vehicle has a pressure relieving tank connection (12), and a pressurised tank connection (13) which is fitted with a pressure limiting valve (15). The pressure relieving tank connection is connected to the operating joint (11), as the valve piston (8) slides until just before the end position, and in the end position the operating connection is connected to the pressurised tank connection. The valve piston has a circular plug, which separates the pressure relieving connection from the operating connection.
