PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the stable image forming operation by improving quality of an image to be formed on a recording medium, in a recording medium conveying device for conveying the recording medium by driving a belt in order to perform image formation such as printing in relation to the recording medium. SOLUTION: A platen chamber 5 is provided on the back surface of a belt 14 for conveying paper P. The paper P is sucked to the upper surface of the belt 14 by suction force of the platen chamber 5. A pinch roller 3 for pinching the paper P together with the belt 14 between it and the platen chamber 5 is provided. Pinching force and suction force are applied to a pinching part pinched by the platen chamber 5 and the pinch roller 3, and the paper P is held on the upper surface of the belt 14 by high holding force.
