PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which can easily retract a presser metal by one hand by swinging a pressing arm sideward. SOLUTION: A two-position stabilizing means 70 includes a hand lifter link 71, a hand lifter 72, an upward feed lift shaft lever 22 and an upward feed base guide arm 12. At a lift cancel position, a presser bar 50 is fitted to a pressing arm 2 to urge resiliently the pressing arm 2 downward and the upward feed base guide arm 12. When the hand lifter 72 is lowered until the axis L6 of the connecting part of the hand lifter link 71 and the hand lifeter 72 is lower than a reference straight line S for connecting the axis L5 of one end of the hand lifter link 71 to the axis L7 of the lower end of the hand lifter 72, the hand lifter 72 is held at a position where it is pushed down by the resilient force of an upward feed spring 61. At this time, the protruding part 87 of the hand lifter 72 pushes the presser bar 50 upward through a fitting piece 88 to release a lock state and angularly displace the upward feed base guide arm 12 in a direction represented by an arrow C. Thus, an upper feed dog 5 is displaced upward.
