DRY PREPOLYMERIZED CATALYST FOR OLEFIN POLYMERIZATION, PROCESS FOR PREPARING THE SAME AND GAS PHASE OLEFIN POLYMERIZATION PROCESS

The invention provides a dry prepolymerized catalyst for olefin polymerization, which comprises a solid catalyst component and a prepolymerized polymer of an olefin, said solid catalyst component comprising (A) a particle carrier, (B) a Group IVB transition metal compound supported on the particle carrier (A), and (C) an organoaluminum oxycompound supported on the particle carrier (A), wherein said dry prepolymerizzed catalyst has a volatile matter content of not more than 2.0 % by weight; and a process for preparing this dry catalyst by drying a prepolymerized catalyst at a temperature of not higher than 50 .degree.C in a stream of an inert gas to reduce the volatile content of not more than 2.0 % by weight. Because of its good fluidity, the dry prepolymerized catalyst of the invention can be stably fed to the polymerization reactor, and also has excellent olefin polymerization activity. When the prepolymerized catalyst is dried in accordance with the invention, a dry prepolymerized catalyst of good fluidity can be prepared without reducing the olefin polymerization activity.
