PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tabular detergent which has a greatly improved solubility and can maintain its shape during transport by wrapping portions of a powdery detergent up with a water-soluble substrate and solidifying at least a part of the surface layer of a layer containing the powder detergent. SOLUTION: Here, 'solidification' means that a part of a component of a powdery or granular detergent is solidified by agglomerating or binding under heating and/or pressure. More specifically, a water-soluble substrate is filled with a powdery detergent, molded into a sheet, and solidified under pressure or heating; a detergent composition is filled into a mold, subjected to compaction molding or thermal molding, and covered and sealed with a water-soluble substrate; or a powdery detergent is compound with e.g. a thermally meltable water-soluble binder and when the composition is molded, only the surface layer is heated to solidify only the surface layer. Preferably, the solidification ratio is 90% or lower but 5% or higher, based on the wt. of the detergent layer. Preferably, the tabular detergent has a thickness of 1 cm or lower and an areal density of 0.005-1.8 g/cm2.
