<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive odor suppressing and deodorizing agent which is nearly white and is different from an active carbon, has a clean fee, is incombustible and is capable of efficiently adsorbing and removing both of acidic and basic malodorous gases, such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. SOLUTION: This odor suppressing and deodorizing agent consists of the powder and granular materials of the hydrate of porous calcium silicate having a specific gravity of 0.3 to 0.6 and a pH of 10 to 11.5, more preferably the powder and granular materials of lightweight aerated concrete(ALC) and the pore size distribution peak thereof is preferably within a range from 200 to 400Å. Since the agent has a chemical adsorption function together with physical adsorption and, therefore, hardly desorbs the once adsorbed malodorous gaseous components. The agent is substantially free from the striking degradation in the adsorption performance in spite of moisture (water) absorption.</p> |
