PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart adhesive to a printing paper sheet, etc., by simple constitution for bookbinding. SOLUTION: In this adhesive imparting method, an adhesive layer is peeled from a peeling tape to be imparted along the side end part of a sheet material P1, by contacting an adhesive tape 21, where the adhesive layer is formed on the peeling tape, with the side end part of the moving material P1. An adhesive imparting device 10 is equipped with moving means 12a and 13 for moving the material P1 in a given direction, and contacting means 14 and 15 for contacting the tape 21, where the adhesive layer is formed on the peeling tape, with the side end part of the material P1, and the tape 21 is contacted with the material P1 by the contacting means 14 and 15, and the adhesive layer is peeled from the peeling tape to be imparted along the side end part of the moving material P1.
