PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a container transfer device that can interspace containers on its conveyor without component replacement irrespective of changing types of container. SOLUTION: Transferring means 4 and 6 are disposed in two stages, or the first and second stages, in a transfer direction so that opposite circulating belts 3 and 5 transfer a line of containers carried in by a conveyor 2, by holding their barrel in between. In order that, when the second-stage belts 5 sandwich the first of two contiguous containers, the first-stage belts 3 sandwich the other, the first- and second-stage pelts 3 and 5 are adjacent to each other. The first- stage belts 3 are slower in speed than the conveyor 2 and the second-stage belts 5.
