PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and efficient photosynthesis reactor that solves the problems that the diffusion of light into a middle layer and a bottom layer in the photosynthesis reactor is hindered and stabilized continuous production is difficult. SOLUTION: This photosynthesis reactor comprises a photosynthetic microorganism layer 2 that includes a photosynthetic microorganism and effects the photosynthesis under irradiation with light and a culture solution layer 1 that includes a culture solution for culturing the photosynthetic microorganism where the photosynthetic microorganism layer 2 having a light-receiving layer for incident light and a culture layer are separated from each other with a transparent permeable membrane, and the photosynthetic microorganism layers 2 and the culture solution layers 1 are alternately stacked. Thus, the incident light efficiently diffuses into an intermediate layer and a lower layer of the reactor, further, the photosynthetic microorganism can be held in the reactor under optimal conditions and a useful substance can be continuously produced in high efficiency while the environment can be cleaned.
