PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding method by an optical profile grinding machine capable of implementing the correct grinding even when the shape of a tip of a grinding wheel is not truly circular, and preparing a rough cutting program by a simple teaching method. SOLUTION: The shape is registered by moving the image of a grinding wheel 11 along a work W projected on a projector 13, a grinding feed area and a fast forwarding area of the grinding wheel 11 are registered by a rapid line, a pitch intervalαto indicate the cutting direction and the cutting position is inputted, and an NC machine 7 prepares an NC program, and controls the grinding machine to implement the grinding. Alternatively, a grinding machine 3 is directly controlled to implement the grinding without preparing the NC program.
