PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve workability by projecting plate-shaped guide members at both end sections or the like of one surface in the longitudinal direction in a steel material buried to the peripheral section of a drilled pit in the case of an earth retaining. SOLUTION: Plate-shaped guide members G are projected vertically at central sections in the cross direction of the surface of the steel material K at both end sections or both end sections and central section of one surface in the longitudinal direction of the steel material K such as H-steel. One equal-length plate of the steel material K is inserted near an adjacent borderline to an excavated pit while the projecting ends of the guides G are positioned along approximately an opposed outer edge section in the case of the execution of works. Accordingly, since the center of the steel material is not positioned at the center of the excavated pit as conventional steel materials, a space between the adjacent borderline and a building frame can be shortened remarkably. Thus, since the guides can be installed vertically to a base even when the steel material has extremely long-sized overall length, the underground space of a building can be utilized effectively and the steel material can be mounted easily and properly, cost can be reduced.
