PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of soot by detecting an injection time point and/or an ignition time point in relation to a lambda in a second operating system, in a device having first and second operating systems for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber during an intake step and a compression step. SOLUTION: At the time of uniform operation as a first operating system, a throttle valve 11 is partially opened or closed in relation to a desired torque, and fuel is injected into a combustion chamber 4 from an injection valve 9 during an intake step. Swirl flow (overflow) is applied on injected fuel, and is nearly uniformly distributed into the combustion chamber 4. On the other hand, at the time of stratified operation as a second operating system, the throttle valve 11 is largely opened, and fuel is injected from the injection valve 9 into the combustion chamber 4 during the compressed step. At the time of the second operating system operation, an injection timing point and/or an ignition time point are/is detected in relation to a lambda, and is put operation control to use. It is thus possible to reduce fuel consumption, and it is also possible to suppress generation of soot.
