PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer capable of eliminating variation of printed dots as much as possible irrespective of the number of energized heating resistor elements in a thermal printer having the plurality of heating resistor elements arranged therein. SOLUTION: This thermal printer comprises a plurality of heating resistor elements and an energizing control means that controls the energizing of the heating resistor elements and prints an image on a printing medium by moving the printing medium relative to the heating resistor elements and activating the heating resistor elements. When printing one dot, i.e., the minimum printing unit, the energizing control means controls the energizing of one heating resistor element in all of the heating resistor elements such that the energizing time period is divided into plural times in a time sharing manner and the energizing of one heating resistor element in the plural times is controlled corresponding to the total number of the heating resistor elements energized at the same time.
