PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord improved in tensile rigidity without impairing flexural anisotropy in a flat cord having a core where twistless element wires are placed in a juxtaposed state. SOLUTION: This steel cord composed of a core 3 where three or more wires 2 are bundled in a twistless and juxtaposed state and a sheath 5 having at least one layer made of plural wires 4 which has coiled itself around the core 3 is constituted as follows: the arrangement of wires 2 forming the core 3 in a cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the core 3 is different in at least a part of the core 3 in its longitudinal direction from those of other parts of the core 3; and all wires 2 forming the core 3 are placed within a rectangle having a long side of dX (n+1) [wherein (d) is a diameter of the wire 2; and (n) is a number of wires 2 in the core 3] and a short side of d×1+(1/21/2)} in all cross sections.
