PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic coating composition, a coat-forming method and a coated article which can give a metallic feel with a higher grade sense, by expressing a glittering-like brightening feel that is due to a multidirectional reflection of a metal oxide-covered alumina flake pigment as well as a solid feel. SOLUTION: A coating composition comprising a vehicle, a metal oxide- covered alumina flake pigment and a colored aluminum flake pigment, is characterized in that the above-described metal oxide-covered alumina flake pigment has such a range of a color hue H in the Munsell color system where 100 scales of the Munsell hue article comprises leftward ones of +50 and rightward ones of -50 on the basis of a color due of said mica pigment of 0, as ranging from +30 to +50 or from -30 to -50.
