PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a punching device by which a sheared surface can be worked and formed with a high surface precision and whose structure is simple and inexpensive. SOLUTION: A punching device is equipped with a punch 16, a punch holder 20, a die 26, a die holder 30 and a backup 32. Further, in addition to those, the punching device is equipped with an air cylinder 36 energizing the backup 32 on the punch 16 side, a stopper device 44 interrupting the advance of the backup 32 when the punch 16 performs a retreating movement after it punches a metal sheet and holding the backup 32 in a retreating state and a cam member 40 making a stopper 48 retreat in the non-acting direction after the punch 16 punches the metal sheet and after it retreats and detaches from the die 26 and making the backup 32 reset to a home position.
