PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for using a composition for external use so that human skin barrier function is always kept constant and well-balanced healthy skin is easily maintained by applying the composition for external use containing a specific ingredient to the skin at a specific point of time. SOLUTION: This method for using a composition for external use comprises applying to the skin, at a point of time when the recovery power of human skin barrier function is lowered, pref. at any point of time from 19 to 23, the composition for external use containing an ingredient capable of improving the recovery power of the above-mentioned human skin barrier function (pref. one or more kinds selected from amino acids such as L-arginine, saccharides such as xylitol, polyols such as glycerol, and the like), pref. at the rate of 0.01-10.0 wt.% based on the whole weight of the composition to maintain the human skin barrier function. The above-mentioned composition is provided in the form of a skin lotion, milky lotion, cream or the like.
