PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving device for man conveyors, capable of easily, efficiently, and safely running a line of steps manually without need for an operator to step in a narrow machine room when the power supply to the driving device is interrupted due to some troubles, and it becomes necessary for the operator to drive the line of steps by manual operation. SOLUTION: In a driving device 10 for man conveyors, which is provided with a motor 11 having a rotary shaft 12 to drive a line 4 of steps of a man conveyor through the rotary shaft 12, and a braking device 14 for braking the rotary shaft 12 of the motor 11, a turning handle 40 and a lever 41 capable of releasing the braking of the rotary shaft 12 made by braking device 14 by means of manual remote control, and rotating the rotary shaft 12 of the motor by manual remote control to run a line 4 of steps, are provided.
