PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material composition enabling a satin finished pattern or a pearlescent satin-like pattern to easily be formed on a flat substrate surface. SOLUTION: This photosettable coating material composition capable of satin finished design coating comprises (a) a photosettable (meth)acrylate compound and/or a photosettable unsaturated polyester, (b) a photopolymerization initiator, (c) a silicone-based polymer incompatible with the ingredient (a), and, if necessary, (d) a pearlescent pigment and moreover (e) a fibrous filler. This coated substrate is gained through (A) a process where a flat substrate surface is coated with the above composition to form a coated surface having a satin finished pattern, and (B1) a process where the coated surface is irradiated by an electron beam or the beam of light to form a set coating film having a satin finished pattern or (B2) a process where the coated surface having a satin finished pattern is imparted by top coat made of a photosettable (meth)acrylate-based coating material, followed by being irradiated with an electron beam or the beam of light to form a set coating film having a satin finished pattern. This coating method is characterized by going through the process A, and the process B1 or B2.
