HIGH-PERFORMANCE EXHAUST GAS PURIFYING CARRIER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifying carrier at a low production cost by which the temp. of a catalyst is rapidly raised even at the start of an engine, and the exhaust gas purifying capacity is improved since the catalytic reaction is initiated. SOLUTION: In the exhaust gas purifying carrier 1 having a honeycomb body 2 provided with many cells through which an exhaust gas is passed, a thin-walled part 4 where the thickness of the cell wall of the honeycomb body 2 on the exhaust gas inlet side 9 is larger than that on the exhaust gas outlet side is formed. The metallic honeycomb body 2 is obtained by laminating or winding a metallic flat foil and the corrugated flat foil alternately on one another. The thickness of the metallic foil is decreased by the melting process before or after laminating or winding the metallic flat foil and corrugated foil.
