PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound which has a rotaxane structure wherein a circular molecule is spitted into a dumbbell type molecule and can be polymerized. SOLUTION: A compound containing a rotaxane structure of formula I [Z is a dumbbell type molecular compound; A, B are each an aromatic hydrocarbon; Q, R are each H, a 1 to 5C aliphatic hydrocarbon or the like; X is O, S, CH2 or the like; (n) is 2 to 18; Y is a cyclic molecular compound; (m) is 1 to 5] in the main chain, for example, a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by producing a compound Z, and then reacting the compound Z with a raw material compound which forms a compound Y. The compound Z is obtained by reacting the ester of a reaction product comprising the condensation product of two kinds of amino acids with an aromatic carboxylic acid containing a terminal group A with an alcohol which is the reaction product of an alkylene glycol with an aromatic compound that contains a terminal group B and has an OH group. The compound Y is obtained by reacting an allylalkyleneoxy halogenated aromatic dicarboxylic acid with an aromatic diamine compound.
