PURPOSE: A method for controlling an overload of a No.7 signal processing device is provided to make an upper layer process an overload in the No.7 signal processing device so that a message amount entering a lower layer of a signal processing device can be reduced, and to detect and process a signal in an upper level, so as to control call processing, and to prevent a system down and service suspension. CONSTITUTION: A message handling unit of a message transfer part(MTP) level-3 checks an overload state of a No.7 signal processing device. If the No.7 signal processing device is in an overload state, the message handling unit outputs an overload state information signal to a traffic resource controller(TRC), and outputs a signal processing overload reporting signal to a signaling connection control part(SCCP), an ISDN user part(ISUP), and a telephone user part(TUP). When receiving the overload state information signal, the TRC displays an overload state in an operator computer through a man machine processor. When receiving the signal processing overload reporting signal, the SCCP, ISUP and TUP discard initial address message(IAM) messages as much as a predetermined amount, and output message regulation state reporting signals according to the discard to the operator computer through the man machine processor. The message handling unit checks a load state of the No.7 signal processing device at predetermined intervals, to output an overload release information signal to the TRC when an overload state is released, and to output a signal processing overload release reporting signal to the SCCP, ISUP, and the TUP. When receiving the signal processing overload release reporting signal, SCCP, ISUP, and the TUP stop discarding messages.
