PURPOSE: A tape management method and a record method of digital video tape recorder using the same are provided to manage the recordable times of the tape and record the recorded times of the tape. CONSTITUTION: A tape management method comprises a tape loading step(302S), a record times detecting step(304S), an effect record times discriminating step(306S), a tape record times record step(312S) and a record prohibition step(316S). In the record times detecting step(304S), the record times of a current tape is detected from a system data area of a loaded tape before the data are recorded on a tape. In the effect record times discriminating step(306S), the limit record times of the tape and the detected record times are compared to decide whether the tape can be recorded. 1 is added to the detected record times if the tape can be recorded, and the updated record times is recorded in the system data area. If not, the record is prohibited.
