PURPOSE: The apparatus and the method for recognizing a written-down style are provided to efficiently recognize the character and the number inputted into an inking area, by distinguishing the inking area from each other, without the operation for assigning the kind of a recognizer in advance according to the type of a character that will be recognized. CONSTITUTION: A microprocessing unit(30) includes an inking determination part, a recognizer determining part and a recognition part. The inking determination part checks if the inking of a character is continued on a touch screen(38). The recognizer determining part decides for what recognizer an inputted character is included in the area. The recognition part recognizes the inputted character by the recognizer determined by the recognizer determining part. A memory(32) stores data. The character is inputted via a keyboard(34). The touch screen(38) responds to the pressure on its surface applied when the character and the number are inked, and a display controller(36) converts the pressure to an electric signal.
