The invention relates to a device (1) which can be used as a lipstick or similar in order to apply wipeable material, comprising a carrier (10) for the stick of material (2) whereby said carrier can be manually actuated and moved back and forth inside a housing (3). The stick of material (2) has a hinged cap (4) which is secured by means of a pivoting arm connected to the lower end thereof and which shifts between an open position and a closed position in a sliding movement. In order to optimize usability, the inventive device is provided with a hinge control for the cap (3), whereby the latter is forcibly guided in such a way that it exits from a retracted covering position and advances prior to the extending stick of material (2), only returning to its covering position when the stick of material (2) has retracted.
