A method and a support system for management of maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical components in a production facility is connected to a control system for controlling operation of the mechanical and/or electrical components. The support system comprises a server adapted to log events related to operation of the mechanical and/or electrical components. Real-time logging may be applied. A maintenance signal indicating when the mechanical and/or electrical components are due for maintenance is generated. A maintenance action is carried out in response to the maintenance signal. The server may communicate with handheld terminals carried by human operators. The support system may be comprised in a converyor system for conveying or sorting luggage or mail items. A plurality of support systems may be interconnected via a network, for example the Internet.
