The potentiometer comprises a straight elongated stator element (6) with at least one resistance path along which a slide block (10) is moved to and fro. A slide bush or other suitable mechanical uncoupling means (11) is connected to the movable slide block and permits defined relative movement between the stator element and slide block to prevent wear on the resistance path of the stator through shock pulses acting along the path of movement. The slide bush is movable to and fro inside a sleeve with a certain play on both sides. The sleeve is connected to the slide block and the slide bush is connected to an external operating element.
