The invention relates to a gastight closed prismatic nickel-metal hydride cell for electrochemical storage of energy. Said cell comprises at least one positive nickel oxide electrode and at least one negative hydrogen-storing electrode, whereby a hydrophilic separator is disposed between the positive and the negative electrodes. Said cell also includes an alkaline electrolyte or alkaline electrolyte mixture. One or several negative electrodes are provided with a gas-permeable hydrophobic transport element for transporting the gases of the cell atmosphere.
