PURPOSE: A feedback controller for an automatic transmission and a method thereof are provided to reduce control time by controlling speed changing of the automatic transmission with the single control way, and to cut down expenses by reducing the capacity of the control unit. CONSTITUTION: A feedback control device is composed of a travel state detecting unit(11) outputting an electrical signal according to the traveling state of a vehicle, and deciding shift condition for the target speed range; and a transmission control unit(2) detecting speed changing of the automatic transmission according to the detected signal from the travel state detecting unit, deciding the gain value for feedback control with data map according to shift condition, and performing the feedback control to change into the target speed range by the decided gain value. Shifting is performed accurately without changing the control mode. The capacity of the control unit and expenses are reduced with controlling shift simply.
