A catalyst for polyester production which is a product of the reaction of (A) a titanium compound ingredient comprising a titanium compound (1) represented by formula (I) and/or a titanium compound (2) obtained by reacting the titanium compound (1) with either an aromatic polycarboxylic acid represented by formula (II) or an anhydride thereof with (B) a phosphorus compound ingredient comprising a phosphorus compound represented by formula (III). A polymerization feed material comprising an alkylene glycol ester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and/or an oligomer thereof is condensation-polymerized in the presence of the catalyst to obtain a polyester which has a satisfactory hue and excellent moldability and less forms a deposit on a spinning nozzle. (R<1> is C2-10 alkyl; p is 1 to 3; n is 2 to 4; R<2> is (un)substituted C6-20 aryl or C1-20 alkyl; and m is 1 or 2 and q is 0 or 1, provided that m+q is 1 or 2).
