Graft copolymer with 100-25000 mmole/kg of amino groups is obtained from: (a) 0.5-25 weight% of polyamine (with 11 nitrogen atoms and number average molecular weight of 500); (b) a polyamide-forming monomer such as lactam or omega -aminocarboxylic acid; and (c) an oligocarboxylic acid. 0.015-3 mole% of dicarboxylic acid or 0.01-1.2 mole% of tricarboxylic acid (based on polyamide-forming monomer) is used as carboxylic acid. An independent claim is also included for the production of the graft copolymer which involves performing polymerization of lactam or polycondensation of omega -aminocarboxylic acid, in the presence of the polyamine, at 200-290[deg]C. The oligocarboxylic acid is added either during or at the start of the polymerization or polycondensation.
