PURPOSE: A circuit for acquiring an image mosaic effect is provided to produce a new mosaic effect. CONSTITUTION: A mosaic effect acquisition circuit includes a horizontal and vertical synchronous signal generator(4), a mosaic block scan address generator(6), a video memory(12) and a memory controller(10). The horizontal and vertical synchronous signal generator generates horizontal and vertical synchronous signals. The scan address generator is synchronized with the horizontal and vertical synchronous signals, masks a mosaic block based on horizontal and vertical mask signals provided by a host, and generates the position of a pixel representative of the masked mosaic block as horizontal and vertical scan addresses. The video memory stores video data. The memory controller stores video memory provided by the host in the video memory and gives the gradation value of the mosaic block representative pixel designated by the horizontal and vertical scan addresses to all of horizontal and vertical pixels of a corresponding mosaic block section.
