The ground heat storage system has a heat storage medium (13) within the soil (2) with an insulation and sealing system (8-10) which also protects the medium against lateral pressures from the surrounding soil and also vertical pressures on it. The heat storage medium can be foam concrete or a granulate which holds water to store the heat, together with coiled pipe heat exchangers.
